Today I have nothing fancy, per se, for you. No recipe that you probably don’t already have some knowledge of. Rather I am here to express my thoughts and fill you in on what is a serious matter in which all need to be aware of.

We have all heard about it. We “think” we have all experienced it. In reality most of the people I and you know have no idea what this feels like, hunger. Today, April 8th 2013, marks a day when more than 230 food bloggers are reaching out to the social public, if you will, and spreading the word in what they are calling Food Bloggers Against Hunger.

To 1 in 6 people in the U.S. hungry is something that is not new, according to http://www.feedingamerica.org Hunger affects people in so many ways, more than one would think. Not only does it affect the person itself but the people around, ones lifestyle, ones emotional well being as well as the health of one. It is so crazy stupid that the number is that high considering America is known for it’s farmland, abundance of grains as well as overflowing supply of fruits and vegetable. Farmers supply the food and sadly are the ones who are affected the most. These days we see more wholesale stores than farmers markets oddly enough. This all makes sense given this following statement, The price of junk food has dropped more than 30% in the last 2o years, while the prices of fruits and vegetables have increased by 40%, according to the New York Times. I am so embarassed, as an American, to hear this statement.

I could EASILY go on and on about more facts and statements although I am going to suggest that you take the time and check out the website Feeding America, as listed above, http://www.givingtable.org and others that you may happen to come across in support of ending hunger. The facts are scary true and it is also amazing that we can do something so little as donating some money or our time and a huge difference can be made.

I am going to share with you a recipe, more of a guideline, as to how to make a very healthy, filling and pocket friendly meal that will be sure to satisfy one.

Oatmeal

1/2 cup of Oats
1 cup of Water (or milk or juice)
1 tablespoon of honey

Mix all together in a microwave safe bowl and place in the microwave for 1.5 minutes. Take out and stir. Place back in in incriments of 30 seconds until it is to the consistency of your liking.

My intention here is to at least inspire and spread the word to someone out there who in turn can make a positive affect in ones community. Voices must be heard by the government. TRY and make something happen today!
